About the Program
1. What is LINUX ENGINEERING?
The brand name is an umbrella name for the WebStep s.r.o. professional activities in the area of the installation and administration of servers based on the Linux OS. The activities are supported by long-term experience, proper know-how and capable personnel - since our colleagues enjoy their respect as true experts in the branch.
It is our belief that you are intrigued by the opportunities offered by our program. If you haven't decided yet, and hesitate to install the Linux operating system in your new server, we would like you to read the Linux - Server paragraph. If you already know that you want to purchase the Linux or you have been using it already, let us introduce the services we are able to provide.
2. Services
2.1. Server Installation
Server installation is not begun by inserting the installation medium: It is preceded by the exact determination of the role and purpose of the server, future performance assessment, requirements on support, and criticality in terms of the application itself. Our employees have already installed hundreds of Linux servers. Some are even authors of their own distributions, thus eligible to declare themselves truly knowledgeable in Linux. The choice of appropriate HW and matching distribution, the best combination of the components, the security, or even elaboration of the technical documentation required for the installation - all these are services we are able to offer and provide to you - with pleasure, of course.
The price for a server installation starts at 1,900 CZK: This is related to the simplest installation of Linux routers. The prices are then derived from the number of the components installed and from the number of SW licenses needed. As a standard, we use the Debian GNU/Linux operating system so the license is free of charge. A guarantee period of one year is provided for the installation. Ask for your particular price quotation: If you agree upon installation plus administration, the price of the installation is reduced by 50%. 2.2. Server Administration
Every installation of any operating system will become obsolete. The IT branch is dynamic, and many of you probably still remember a time without computers, without the Internet, the time of IQ 151, ZX Specter, or ATARI computers in operation, and the Novell Netware operating system. To allow your server to cope with rapid development and be able to meet the changing requirements, to be certain that the server operation is safe, predictable and stabile, you need to have your server administered.
We - the people in the WebStep company - believe that a properly chosen and carefully maintained operating system of your server will grow with your company. We believe that - although during the lifetime of such a system the HW is renewed several times - the original, carefully administered and continuously updated installation of the operating system does not need to be reinstalled. In fact, reinstallation would be considered a failure, and this is our attitude to server administration. It is widely known that the best serviceman is the one who is resting while the company is active, so we prefer contracts based on fixed monthly payments.
Prices for Server Administration start at 490 CZK per month, which is related to the - in a way - unwise decision to apply plain installations. The prices differ according to the criticality of the particular application, response time, number of dependent users, range of services operated, documentation level, etc. Ask your dealer to quote a particular price for your particular server.
2.3. Server Audit
A server audit is a frequently asked service that helps the client to make sure that the configuration and the operation of their system is optimal. The output of a server audit is a technical report at a professional level and quality consisting of: A detailed list of the configuration and the settings currently in use; hardware and software equipment; assessment of the system in relation to the requirements on the services provided by the server; and a summary of recommendations aimed at optimization of the operation and total costs of the operation/possession (TCO). The technical report is needed in order to check and document the condition and the settings of the server and the services provided, which is frequently required in company standardization processes. The price for Server Audit starts at 4,900 CZK: it is related to the number of the services provided by the server, the number of users, and the intensity of the processes related to the server. Such a server audit should be regular; if the same system is audited repeatedly, the price per audit is considerably lower. Ask our experts for the price quotation for your particular system.
2.4. Superficial Server Check
The service called "superficial server check" is a tool of prevention. It is designed for owners of smaller companies, as they usually don't need a complex technical report (the Server Audit service). Such a superficial server check is, in fact, a check of the condition and the settings of the system as for the HW and SW, not (unless required) an assessment of the services provided by the system (contrary to the audit). The output is a short report only, listing brief recommendations to follow.
The price for the Superficial Server Check starts at 1.900 CZK; it is related to similar parameters as with the Server Audit (see above). Typically, it is not very different from the sum quoted here. Ask your dealer to quote the price for your particular server.
2.5. Server Backup
In general, creating a reliable backup concept means a real challenge. Backup should be - more or less - automatic, regular and safe. Ideally, the backup data should be saved in a different storage area than the original data; the reason is prevention against a likely loss of the data in case of fire, etc. We are able to provide the Backup service that meets these requirements: The back up operation is remote, regular (once a day), by means of a secured channel (SSL). The data are saved in our backup system, in two copies; the state of the backup system is continuously tested. You can ask for access to the web console of the backup system (charged option), to have the chance to access the saved data instantly. The history of the backup operation may be provided on request as well. Confidentiality of the data stored is guaranteed.
The price for Server Backup starts at 290 CZK per month; it depends on the number of the backups maintained, backup frequency, and data volume. Ask your dealer to quote the price for your particular system. If you e-mail us, provide your basic requirements on the backup process and the volume of the data to back up.
